Yanagawa Canal

IMG_3368Yanagawa Canal – this canal was originally constructed in the mid-16th century and had been used for irrigation by the local farmers in Yanagawa City, Japan. Yanagawa Canal is 470 km long and is now very popular with Japanese and foreign tourists. The best attraction here is the “Donkobune” or riverboats. The boats are used to tour the tourists around the city. Boatmen here also serve as guides and sometimes entertainers for they sing some Japanese traditional songs while maneuvering the boat. They also have some interesting festivals here in March and November.
